Tucked into Washington County at the foothills of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, Santa Clara offers some of the most beautiful landscape anywhere in southern Utah. It is its own city, originally settled in 1854 but is considered part of the St. George Metro area. Although not necessarily with in the city borders, Snow Canyon is considered a part of Santa Clara but technically sits just north hugging the Red Mountains. This area is filled with golf courses, gated communities, high-end Adobe homes and estates.
Santa Clara is part of the Washington County school district and features two elementary schools, the Santa Clara elementary school and the Arrowhead elementary school, the Law the Ridge intermediate school, the Snow Canyon middle school, and the Snow Canyon high school. Dixie State University is also a part of Santa Clara.
Santa Clara is known for its livability and 84% of residents are homeowners. It’s known for its excellent schools, minimal crime, diversity, family activities and entertainment, affordable housing, and nightlife. The median rent is about $1500 with the median home value of about $296,000. Homes tend to rent a little bit higher in Santa Clara than in neighboring St. George and Ivins, which is primarily due to the luxury homes in Snow Canyon skewing the median home price.
Santa Clara has been known as the #10 best places to retire in the state of Utah and #46 out of 155 best places to buy a house. It’s also known as having some of the best schools in the area with a variety of diversity, housing and employment options, and a median household income of about $85,000.
Similar to surrounding communities, Santa Clara is known for a thriving parks and trails department dedicated to protecting and enhancing the local landscape and open spaces. The parks and rec department provide leisure services that diversify and change due to the needs of the residents. With multiple trails, parks and recreational centers, and well-maintained facilities and playgrounds, Santa Clara is definitely one to keep up its motto of “A Beautiful Place to Live”.
