It contains the southernmost highway junction to Zion National Park and is home to the put Tempe Hot Springs, a historic volcanic Silver Spring on the edge of the Virgin River, which the town is likely named after. The city got its first settlers back in 1899 and its first post office in 1903. Regardless, it’s been growing slowly over the years and after the town of Hurricane was established, La Verkin Canals contributed to the establishment of the community.
