Homes with Solar Panels for Sale in Utah

These are Utah homes whose listings mention solar panels or solar power. There are 433 solar homes for sale in Utah right now, with a median asking price of $600,000. Most are along the Wasatch Front, with the most in Salt Lake City, West Jordan and West Valley City.

Solar is worth the most when you know how the system is set up. Ask whether the panels are owned, leased or financed, and which Rocky Mountain Power schedule they're on: newer systems are on net billing, where exported power earns a lower export credit rather than offsetting retail power. Compare solar homes in Salt Lake City, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain and Ogden.

Common questions

About homes with solar panels in Utah.

How much is a home with solar panels in Utah? ▾

The median asking price for Utah homes with solar is $600,000 right now. Over the last 12 months they sold at a median of $585,000, about $228 per square foot.

Does Utah still have net metering? ▾

Not for new Rocky Mountain Power customers. The original net metering program is closed, and newer systems are on net billing, where exported power is credited at an export rate that is reset each year. Older systems may still be on the grandfathered net metering or transition schedules.

What happens to leased solar panels when you buy a house? ▾

The lease or loan doesn't go away at closing. It is either paid off by the seller or transferred to the buyer, which usually needs the solar company's approval. Ask for the contract early and read the monthly payment, escalator and remaining term.

Is there still a federal tax credit for solar? ▾

Not for homeowner-owned systems. The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) has expired, so a buyer can't claim it on panels that came with a home or on a new system added now. Talk to a tax professional about your situation.

How fast do solar homes sell in Utah? ▾

Over the last 12 months, Utah solar homes took a median of 34 days to go under contract and closed at 99.4% of their final list price.
