Known for hosting the world-famous Utah Shakespeare Festival, Cedar City located in Iron County is about 250 miles south of Salt Lake City and 170 miles north of Las Vegas and home to about 30,000 residents. Cedar City is just off of Interstate 15 about 50 miles north of St. George and Washington. It’s home to Southern Utah University, the Cedar City Regional Airport, the Neil Simon Theater Festival and the Utah Summer Games. The city continues to grow as over the last 20 years it has grown more than in the last 80 years combined.
The city’s motto is “there’s no excuse to have nothing to do” because there really is hundreds of activities, adventures, ski resorts, national forests, parks, and a phenomenal art scene in Cedar City. For festivals and fine dining, to wilderness expeditions and recreation, there’s always something to do, see, and explore in Cedar City.
Just 40 minutes from Cedar City is the Brian Head Resort, and all access gateway to outdoor adventure regardless of the season. Cedar City is close to Dixie National Forest, designated wildernesses, miles of trails, and a recently developed recreational area called Three Peaks perfect for picnicking, mountain biking, offloading, and camping.
The Utah Shakespeare Festival is an award-winning Festival that draws thousands to Cedar City each year. A close second is the Neil Simon Festival celebrating the works of one of America’s greatest community playwrights as well as three of Simons of 38 plays running mid-July through mid-August.
Residents are part of the Iron County School District and students are assigned to the Cedar South elementary school or the Iron Springs Elementary school, the Cedar middle school, and the Cedar high school. All of the schools are between 1 to 4 miles from most homes in Cedar City.
In Cedar City you’ll find rustic homes perfect for vacationing or recreational rentals to single-family homes in downtown and luxury estates at the base of Loan Tree Mountain.
